14 trends in 2014.

Now that we’re ankles deep into 2014 and the weather is warming up, it’s time to switch up my wardrobe and give in to 14 trends that I feel will be quite popular this year. These are my predictions for 2014 and things that I think will be in style…

1. Uniquely shaped bags. I made a post about uniquely shaped clutches a couple of posts back and I stand by this. I think having a bag as a statement piece makes for the perfect accessory. An interesting bag will go a long way and will even make simple or casual outfits look fun and chic. You’ll look fashionable without having to think too hard about it. 2. Mom jeans. Ugh. I know. They were never really in style…especially for anyone under 40. But I think they’ve been redesigned to actually look good this time. Buy a high waisted pair with a button front and wear it with a crop top or collared shirt tucked in. You’ll love it. I promise. The one pictured is available at Urban Outfitters!

3. Pastels. This never went out of style…well, for me, at least. I think pastel outerwear is sleek and clean and really sets you apart from everyone else wearing muted boring coats. Even not as outerwear…pastel always look good and fancy. Oh, you fancy, huh?

4. High waisted matching sets. I was really into this last year and maybe even all the years before that. Anyhow, I’m still not over it (I don’t think I’ll ever be). I think matching sets with high waisted bottoms make you look so put together, fashionable and just downright good. All of these are from Topshop, which is available at Nordstrom Locations! Set 1, Set 2, Set 3.

5. Bright prints. I rarely wear anything too bright, but I guess it’s time for a change. Art deco prints in a fluorescent rainbow of color can look amazing if done correctly. I’m thinking of wearing some neutral colors for shoes or outerwear to tone down how loud it can be.

6. Full shorts. I hated this for a while because I usually like my shorts high waisted and fitted but I finally gave in to the baggy shorts look when I saw the most amazing striped pair in the Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 2013 runway show. It was so well done and just the right amount of oversize that a tiny lady like me would want. Anyway…I bought it and will be strolling around in it this Spring and Summer.

7. Stripes. I will always love stripes. Polka dots too, but that’s another story…

8. Officer Caps. Why not look official? I love the twist on police uniforms and have always been a fan of anything military inspired. I feel like these hats go perfectly with just about anything. The officer caps were a big part of the 2011 Moschino campaign..but it never really took off. I’m hoping this year it does!

9. Boxy tops. I don’t really care about this trend, but I know it exists and I’m okay with that. It looks best with high waisted shorts/skirts!

10. button down shirts in contrast. I like this trend for business meetings and office work. I think it’s about time we spice up boring office wear. Plus, it doesn’t have to be limited to office jobs…I think the trend is classy and can be worn for nice dinners, going out at night, etc.

11. Tea length skirts. This one might be difficult for me because I am the queen of mini skirts and dresses. But I like it and I’m definitely excited to incorporate tea length skirts into my wardrobe and outfits.

12. Knits over skirts/dresses. This is definitely a trend I approve of because I hate being cold and I really do love wearing knits over mini skirts and dresses.

13. Emerald green. It’s just a good color that I think it looks good with every skin tone.

14. Mixing prints. Prints can be played safely with neutrals or accentuated with even more prints. I’ve had outfits that are overloads of polka dots or interesting shapes and it’s always been a great turn out. I think this is the most fun trend to wear!

Let me know what you think! My favorite trend will always be matching separates but honestly, I can’t wait to try on some mom jeans. ;x

lazy days.

Hmm..This might be the most casual I’ve been on here, with a fur lined parka and 5 button denim. I’m not much for jeans, but I can’t help but love this high waisted pair… and of course, I also bought them in black. I’ve actually been wearing this outfit on my ‘lazy days’ when I’m just trying to get from point A to point B without worrying about mini skirts and my highest heels.

seafolly.

Having the shortest winter ever in California, has allowed me to spend my weekends in swimwear and sunglasses. Which isn’t that bad, I guess but I do miss layering a bit and I didn’t even get a chance to utilize all of my new coats! Anyhow, This little two piece is from Seafolly, an Australian brand since 1975. I’ve always been a fan of their prints and fit. I especially love how perfect their bikini tops are! Seafolly is available at Nordstrom Department Stores and Everything but Water Stores.

daydream in the park.

I was so happy that I got to work with the talented, Angela Dietz for an editorial a while back (it is still one of my favorite shoots!). Julian Abalos shot this amazing little video in between shots and I am so happy with it. I love anything soft and dreamy and this kind of sums it up perfectly.

i love winter.

Summer came early in California, so I’m making use of the pile of swimsuits I’ve accumulated over the past few months. This one is Marc Jacobs and one of my favorites…I love the colors and the high waist with ruffles. I figured I had enough swimwear to post a swimsuit once a week! :) So..be on the lookout!

boop.

I went to the For Love & Lemons studio a while back and A/J surprised with this little lace number. I’ve been a fan for the brand for a while now since their items are the perfect combination of feminine, classy and sexy. Plus, everything is pretty easy to style..just throw a leather jacket on to make your outfit more casual or wear it on it’s own to look like a little lady.
