Salzburg, Austria has to be one of my absolute favorite places to visit. It’s about a 2 hour train ride from Vienna, but once you arrive, you’ll instantly feel like you’re in another world. The place is well known for being the setting of the Sound of Music and also for being Mozart’s birthplace. So, there’s good reason as to why you feel like you’re on a movie set or have somehow hopped into a time machine! The structures are beautiful, the history is captivating and the music is elegant. Here are a few tips –
-We went during September – October. The weather was perfect – not too cold & not too hot & the crowds had died down from the Summer Tourism
-Purchase a Salzburg Card. It’s about 25 – 38 euros depending on how many days you’d like to use it. Even one day is worth it, and you’ll spend the entire day exploring. Everything is fairly close & you’ll get free admission to all city tourist attractions as well as free public transportation.
Some of my favorites –
-Hotels: Hotel Schloss Leopoldskorn (the Sound of Music was filmed here and it’s breathtaking)
-Museums: DomQuartier Salzburg, Neuen Residenz, Mozart’s Birthplace, Hohensalzburg Castle
-Restaurants: Die Weisse, WeiherWirt, Tomaselli
-Activities: Biking
-Food: Weinerschnitzel –It’s at every restaurant, so you have to try it!
-Desserts: Apfelstrudel (always delicious), Salzburger Nockerl (this wasn’t my favorite, but it’s the dessert that Salzburg is known for)
I’m hoping to visit Salzburg again soon and will definitely add more to this post in the future. I’ll also be posting about Hallstatt and Vienna!
Stay tuned!
