outfit timeline 2014: may – august
This next recap of my 2014 timeline, is probably one of my favorites. I love dressing up for Spring and Summer, especially here in Southern California. It’s so easy to style up dresses or rompers and not have to worry about overcoats. I’m so lucky and endlessly grateful for our Summer days, although I do long for layering and sometimes I wish I did get more use out of jackets & coats. But I guess you can’t win with weather…unless you live in Belize forever. 😛

everything that we hate or adore.

everything that we hate or adore.

One of the my favorite quotes, “If you want something, then dress for it” has been popping in my mind more and more lately. Probably because I’ve been a witness to wonderful things simply because of “dressing” for it. We rarely ever talk about it but our presentation affects so much, and studies show that they way you dress and present yourself affects the way you feel mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It isn’t about looking “hot” or being seen. It’s about feeling good about yourself. I always wear things that I feel comfortable AND confident in. People always go for one or the other, but it’s important to have both. It will make an incredible difference, trust me! So find well-fitted versatile pieces and good quality basics…then mix & match! You’ll end up with tons of options that you’ll look great it!

Lately I’ve been taking my own advice and dressing in classic pieces paired with well-fitted basics. I fell in love with this turtleneck bodysuit from For Love & Lemons and have been pairing it with everything from high waisted jeans to my favorite skirts. It’s one of those pieces that you’re hesitant to buy then you end up wearing it much more than you anticipated…then you wonder how you ever even lived without it? It’s funny how that happens.

how to be skinny, you ask?

tiffany borland fashion blogger fitness

I’d have to say that the #1 question I get asked from my blog, in person, on social media, etc. etc. would have to be: How did you get so skinny? First off, I never “got” skinny, I’ve always naturally been skinny due to having hyperthyroidism. It’s caused me to have an extremely fast metabolism and with that, I’ve always had trouble putting on weight. Second off, you should never ask someone about being skinny, instead you should ask about being healthier, because at the end of the day that’s really what matters.

I’ve always been very thin, but for as long as I could remember I’ve also been very unhealthy. Although I never gave in to alcohol (I’ve only had 2 alcoholic drinks my whole life), drugs, cigarettes, even soda or chocolate. Everyone always assumed I was healthy because I was thin & never drank but I hardly worked out, I ate every dessert you could imagine and tons of candy every day. I had horrible eating habits and a coffee order that had more sugar than actual coffee. I loved everything sweet – Cake, Pie, Ice Cream, Macarons, you name it! It wasn’t until I got diagnosed with prediabetes that I started to think about my health. We always joke about sugar and diabetes and think it could never happen to us. But it can! I did tons of research on (pre)diabetes and learned that Halle Berry was diagnosed with Type 2. I read articles about how she dealt with it and it opened my eyes. I was incredibly lucky to catch things early on by getting PRE-diabetes, which is reversible, as long as I maintain a healthy diet with balanced sugar.

you look good.

you look good.
I love challenges in fashion and forcing myself to make something work, especially when it comes to workwear, which is often seen as dull or boring. Personally, I think it’s one of the most interesting and fun categories to dress up for simply because it’s so EASY to stand out… if you just push the envelope a bit. Most people are used to the same ol’ gray/black suits completed with a button up shirt but there’s so much more. You can easily spice up your suit with color, embroidery, prints and much more. I’m constantly looking for well fitted suits – whether they’re short suits, pant suits or skirt suits. As long as they fit well, have an incredible pattern or shade, then I’m set.

Missguided has my favorite selection of blazers & suit sets. They have everything from different styles, colors and prints. Plus, I’m a tiny lady & their sizes run a bit smaller, so it’s perfect for petite ladies looking for something they don’t have to alter! Be sure to check out their selection! :)

15 trends in 2015.

I love the beginning of the year, not only because everything feels fresh, energetic and new but I love being able to make predictions. Especially when it comes to fashion, trends and runway shows. I’ve always found it interesting to see what grows in popularity and what falls to the sides.

Last year, I posted about 14 trends of 2014 and I found myself a fan of almost everything especially Matching Sets and Novelty Handbags. Mom’s Jean never became as big as anyone predicted, but I did see a few chicks around festival season rocking the ill fitted denim. Either way, I love looking back and I love looking forward when it comes to trends. I also love even more when the past becomes the present and I find myself wearing my 90s favorites or something from the 60s.

For 2015, I find myself exploring new lengths — fitted suits in bold prints, all white ensembles, large floral prints, preppy uniforms and overly embellished pieces. As my style evolves over the years, I always try to stay true to clean silhouettes, well fitted pieces and classic cuts, while keeping up with the latest. Anyhow, here’s a breakdown of my 15 trends for 2015:

monochrome fashion - black and white
1. Monochrome. I don’t think there will ever be a better pairing than Black & White. They contrast yet compliment one another in such a beautiful way. I especially love the shades in between and how Marc Jacobs classically blends the two tones in floor length gowns.

fringe.

fringe.
Maybe it’s my longing for festival season & summer days, but recently I’ve completely warmed up to fringe. I used to hate the long strips, simply because it was such a hassle to wear. It’s not the most convenient trend, considering you can and will get tangled in everything…including the fringe itself. But I’ve come to terms with the flowy string piece and realized how fun it is to wear, especially while dancing. Though I haven’t resolved the tangling, I’ve learned to be more gentle while wearing it.
